Richard is passionate about helping people achieve control over

About Richard, (but this is really about you)
After graduating from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1976, Richard started working in the
field of retirement planning in 1983, moving deeper into areas of financial services in 1994. Through extensive
training from companies such as Prudential, Mass Mutual, CNA, the American College, and Ed Slott, CPA, he has
become an expert in the issues surrounding estate planning, retirement planning, business planning, risk
management and long term care.
Richard is the founder of Secure Estate Group. Over the past three decades, Richard has been a speaker on matters
pertaining to retirement and estate issues with groups throughout central and eastern North Carolina. As a writer,
his articles have appeared in national magazines, he has published numerous books and has been quoted as an
industry expert and spokesperson in financial news columns.
Richard’s volunteer activities include working with the American Cancer Society, Dementia Alliance, the Special
Olympics, and he is a past president of the Board for the North Carolina Reading Service. He is an accomplished
musician, singer, guitarist and songwriter. He keeps bees and loves woodworking and building custom bee wooden
ware.
Richard has one son, four daughters, and nine, soon to be ten, grandchildren.
